I prepare this tasty dominican dulce de leche recipe for my husband, Roberto, and my two kids, Kiara and Jose, and they love it. It's amazing how we can build family traditions with just a few ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 gallon of milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Sugar to taste
- 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks
Directions:
Pour the milk into a pot (I use stainless steel). Bring to a boil over medium heat. Add sugar and sweeten to taste (carefully, too sweet is not pleasant). When it begins to boil add the vanilla extract and the cinnamon sticks. Stir constantly.
This recipe has just few ingredients but take long to cook. So you have to be stirring constantly and always watching it to avoid any spilling over or sticking to the bottom of the pot. If you see those things happening, lower the heat a bit until the mixture boils but doesn't spill or stick.
Your dulce de leche recipe is ready when the mixture becomes thick and curd consistency. Remove from the heat and let cool down to room temperature. Refrigerate in small dessert cups or in a single glass container and serve chilled. It's so delicious!
